just an idea to knock around
1. there's a vote by b3tans each month to select a charity

2. b3tans contribute artwork and stuff (homemade cakes?) to a prize bundle

3. the prize bundle is auctioned - all proceeds going to the charity that won the poll.

4. auction last for 1 week (or two weeks) -1 week to collect the prize suggestions from posters and 1 week for the bid process. all prize contributors then post the prize on to bid winners address (who pms them)

could be done monthly or bi monthly organised through the newsletter? with a different charity each month

I'll throw my hat in the ring and donate a home made Venetian mask to the first bundle,

any thoughts?

thought this would be a good a place as any to post the suggestion, posting it on talk wasn't even an option

I don't need much of an excuse to post a link to my blog
how to make a ventian mask:

I'm donating the gold renaissance looking mask (next to the african one) if this idea ever takes off

ha ha, brilliant
it worries me that I'm now actually seriously entertaining that idea

You should do it.
You'll make a fortune.

Why has the Hulk
got a midget tugging him off?

I like the idea
however i could see it starting well then tailing off. I could probably offer to make something, but it would be a) shit and b) probably not made on time.

Who would organise it?

I'm sure
plenty of b3tans will step up once they see the ball rolling, plus if its for a good cause it may give extra impetus

Your best bet here is to gaz Rob.
My first thought is, have you seen how many regulars don't have an icon?

Except Jeff though.
He is just a pikey.

That's a really good idea
I would be happy to put something in.

Where were you thinking of setting up the auction?
(, Mon 9 May 2011, 8:19, Reply)
I like this
but think that the abuse it will get could be quite derailing
(, Sat 28 May 2011, 13:02, Reply)
its complicated but doable I think
there's definitely some problem areas that need ironing out:

the winner would need to prove he's paypaled the winning bid amount into the chosen charities account

he then contacts all the prize contributors (or they are informed) who have to be relied upon to post their contributions on to the winners address

but like ebay beacuse it's a community I don't think anyone would get away with being dishonest
