Well don't turn down the other Oxford offer until you've had the interview this Friday.
It might be good if you can shoehorn in the 'berk is in demand' line, so a quick decision would be useful.

but I am very keen and I know how to put that across without sounding desperate, and I've also thought of some good questions to ask. I know I interview well and I'm not terrified like I was for my PhD interviews.

Is Oxford a location you'd be happy in?

I'd move to Leamington (halfway between tennis boy and work, essentially) and commute. It's do-able. And of course the magical words on my CV, 'Oxford' and 'clinical trials' will look very good.

You'll spend a fortune on petrol otherwise.

since I'd be on the train every day to and from work, I'd just stay on it and carry on up to where he lives, it's only 20-odd minutes, or about 20ish miles in the car. I will see him more often if I live in Leamington, Oxford is a long way to come if you're just popping over for the evening.

What sort of research is the interview on Friday for?

two are working on a model system for typhoid infection, and one is testing samples from a pre-clinical trial for a new meningitis vaccine. I'd prefer the meningitis one.

it did not get any more funny the more I read it.

I read 'typhoid' as 'Typhoo'and it sort of ran away with me.
Apols.
