But the way people use PCs has changed, if you think of the context. Where as before it was a work tool, it's now a social tool. Where as before you need to be sat down at a desk to use them, now you would use them standing up on the tube.
Think of the proccess of getting some software onto your machine....
- Open disk draw, put in CD, close it
- Wait for the autoinstaller (that has to be created by the developer, and therefore, is different from program to program)
- Pick a location of where to install it
- Pick what elements you wish to install
- The installer has to write the files, registry keys, components.
- Determine what hardware you've got; if you can run it.
..... etc....
And that's before you've even used it for the first time. Now you can click on 'store' (or whatever they call it), click 'install', and it'll take care of purchasing/lisancing and installing. Like an iPhone really.
They've borrowed sooooo much from Apple, it's quite flattering.
