miserable fart. He decided to have a mortgage-related sulk instead and then was irritatingly offhand when I called him earlier to see if he wanted me to come over. As a consequence I am now in a vile mood, sitting on my own at home stuffing my face with chinese takeaway.

takeaway chinese is rarely very good or very bad. And it was his loss, although I doubt he could have handled staying up as late as I did after drinking as much as I did, having slept as little as I did and then going to work.
I made lemon drizzle at Jeff's request, I'm sure you've had it before...

Buzzing fridge, hole in the bathroom floor, paper thin mattresses and goods trains rumbling past on the line three hundred yards from the window.
In contrast, a floor was almost luxurious.
