Anything other than breathing must have felt overrated after that.

I've told this story before
but when younger I woke up early in the morning after a heavy night's drinking and blearily reached for the pint of water on the beside table. Sadly for me it was neat gin

Oof! FUCK!
A wake up call and a half

OUCH

Yes
an excellent start to the morning. It's this incident that goes some way to convince me that it's not that I have a miraculous anti-hangover power, but that I am perpetually drunk

I think it was Frank Skinner who got to the point of having to drink a litre of sherry before he could get out of bed in the morning.

Eugh. Sherry?
Nothing against in small quantities at appropriate times, but in the morning?

That was when I was young and reckless ;)

It's nice to meet another neat gin enthusiast

Gin is best of all the drinks
and that's an expert opinion

I don't drink it anymore.
It has a particular effect on an aspect of my personality that the various assembled boyfriends did not appreciate.

It can have a depressive impact.
I have seen a grown man weep about very minor matters after a night on the gin.

I have the occasional one as an aperitif but that's it - partly as gin hangovers are amongst the worst.

I fucking wish it had a depressing effect.
Much less embarrassing.
