I think their earlier singles were on the whole OK. They got worse as they went on.
Inoffensive pop music, I cannot say I hate it. As per Tango up there ^ people seem to think they were incredible innovators and this is mostly simply not the case. There were many worse 60 acts though.

Freddie and the Dreamers, for example, were so mind-meltingly shit I actually struggle to comprehend that they were real.

For me it would be mid-60s US teen garage punk.
I fucking love the snotty attitude of people like The Sonics. Love it.

Also the 'Freakbeat' scene in Britain c.'66.

There were worse acts at that time, I agree, but by and large I don't have to listen to their songs anymore
I don't have to listen to people bang on and on about how great they are and I don't have to put up with the especially annoying one occasionally trying to look relevant.
