Definitely the latter. I saw one of my old form tutors about 2 years ago. He was out shopping with his wife, he's got to be 70.
I didn't say anything and as I walked past him he said, "Afternoon, 'Stunned." I was so taken aback I said, "Hello, Sir." I am nearly 40 years old!

I have had this happen to me as wellwith my junior school headmistress, whilst I was working in WHSmith.
