when I was a kid an option at the chippy wasa battered piece of potato. Apart from the fact it was basically a variation on a chip (meaning you had chips with a slightly different chip) they were called 'smacks' meaning you would order 'smack and chips'

Fucking brilliant.There's at least two chippies I can think of where that might get you something else.
Only two? Actually there's a few more than that, but I did "live" in Liverpool for a bit and I did work in west Cumbria for a while... Make of that what you will.
