Buying a car at the moment (boring family Volvo estate)
Can't work out if diesel or petrol is best based on 10,000 miles a year. Diesel is more expensive than petrol, but provides better economy.

new diesel cars are no longer viable
I think the telegraph motoring section had something on this recently.

But generally 10k is not eniough miles to offset the purchase price

diesels cost a cockload more to service
especially now they all have DPFs and EGR systems.

I'm learning the hard way.
