My wife had our first with just gas and airThen was determined to have an epidural for the second.
In the event things happened too quickly for that to be possible, but she did manage to get a shot of Pethidine.
I can't comment on how that affected the pain because I don't know, but it calmed her the fuck down.
Opiates FTW!

Lightweight!Yeah, that can be a downside of opiates.
Novice heroin users often vomit the first few times, but it is wonderfully moreish...
