Have you seen a dentist? I had a problem with an impacted wisdom tooth last year. I had an infection that cleared up in no time with antibiotics. Then I got the wisdom tooth taken out at the dental hospital. I was scared shitless, if truth be told, but it was all absolutely fine.

I have (see above)and will be going back on Monday. I have been assured that the medication should kick in pretty quickly.
