It's not about the public school thing
It's more about them actually getting an idea of how some people live. I believe the political class have very very little in common with the voting public - even those few idealists that are NOT from the 'public school-to-Oxbridge-to-political-intern-to-MP' sausage machine become quickly brainwashed into being MPs.
Politics is far too important to be left to politicians.

as much as I don't like the cabinet,
I think most of them would be sensible enough to budget properly and be ok. lots of people on benefits live ok, not well I admit, there will be little to no luxury or fun, but it's not supposed to be supporting you, just keeping you going till you find work,. its different for disability benefit I'm sure, I wont get in to that debate.
