The difference being that Religion in politics here is seen as generally a vote loserwhile over there it's a vote winner.

Yes. Blair didn't go Catholic until he quit. They are a religious bunch, that go to church and believe in that shit. Only natural it should be politics.
Save for the East and West coast I think they still have rising church attendances.
I lived in Memphis, Google Central church in Memphis, TN and check it out.

There was an onion video during the last election that made me laugh.It said "75% of Americans would vote for the candidate who promises to kill Satan"
I think that's probably true.
