+1 on the taking dollars thing
Accepted all over the eastern bloc - some places I've been would rather take dollars over anything else - including local currency.
Also, take really warm clothing, it'll be below -10 most nights.

TBH I've spent more time in Ukraine
But Moscow is a fine city, do all the touristy things - Red Square, St Basil's etc and definately try the Russian wines, they make some great champagnes. The vodka's pretty good too, served well below freezing, with a side of caviar & blinis it's heaven!
