If he was independent and a member of a National or Network then you won't have been fucked over.
Plus, advisers can get struck off for fucking clients over, so an extra £200 versus being struck off, they'll probably opt for staying authorised.

yeah, he came highly reccomended,
and so far, if i believe the letters he sends me every 6 months or so, we have saved a few hundred quid already.

If he's fee based rather than commission then you'll have saved the £500 within a year or two.
There's no way you can find the best deals on your own. Even if they only beat your own researched deal by 0.25% on the interest rate you've made that fee back.
