When I started reading for pleasure, at about 18 or soo, I was into army books like McNab, Ryan and a load of one-off real-life types.Haven't read an army book in many many moons, but I used to like them.

Nah', doesn't ring a bell, we're talking just under decade since I read anything like that though, I was only into them for a couple of years.(
