i was talking about this the other day
so scone/gone is the normal way to say it and scone/cone is the posh way to say it. that's the conclusion we came to

That is not right at all.
People who say 'scone' to rhyme with 'phone' are social-climbing Hyacinth Bucket oiks trying to put on airs. It doesn't work and they out themselves as common by doing so. Where's Fogle? He'll tell you. He's from the right side of the tracks.

Actually Fogle's old boy had a word with the planning officer, who went to his old school and arranged for the tracks to be diverted 50 miles away from the family pile.

Fogle replaced the tracks with a 45 mile long ethernet cable he just happened to have lying around.
