Happy Sundays
I wish I had more time to read all the stories that have been posted here this weekend. What I have read so far is excellent; even Zapiola's brilliantly twisted pieces. I think I maybe a little less than constructive at work tomorrow...

Anyway, here's a short piece that I've refined from something I started writing a while ago (loosely based in fact), that seemed to be going nowhere, until the "Tales of..." topic gave me some inspiration.

In the reply.

Que?
Beautiful.

Unbelievable pulchritude.

More than once we’d caught one another’s eye from across the room before she smiled at me, spilling me from my chair so that I flowed across the floor as my entire being liquefied.

Her dark hair mirrored my melted form as it cascaded onto her shoulders before surging down to the small of her back.

The dancing lights highlighted the deep brown skin of her face piece by piece; pleasingly teasing me with a gradual reveal of her features.

I smiled back and couldn’t help feel it must have seemed more like a creepy grimace than the seductive show of teeth I’d intended.

It didn’t put her off, however, as she held me prisoner with her gaze and pursed her full lips before wrapping them around the straw that jutted from the drink before her, causing all the blood in my body to rush south and leaving my head feeling light and empty.

The crowd of dancers slipped out of my field of vision and the bar soon seemed to be empty but for the object of my desires. Even our own groups of friends had disappeared into the ether, and a blurred frame made a photograph of my beautiful temptress.

She blew a kiss at me and my spine shattered, causing me to clutch desperately at the bar lest I should collapse into a broken wreck on the floor.

I began to fear for my cardiac welfare as she stepped delicately off her chair and the bright light lit her from behind, outlining the soft curves of her slim frame through the light summer dress.

She glided across the dance floor and my heart beat thunderously. The music became inaudible as my head pulsated with the voracity of my thumping heart and I could feel my palms moisten as quickly as my mouth dried.

She leaned in to me and I offended the softness of her cheek with the roughness of my own. Not for the first time I regretted not having shaved before I left the house, but she appeared completely unperturbed as her lips casually sidled up to my ear, and in sweet, melodic tones she spoke in words I couldn’t hope to understand.

She pulled her head back and melted me again with her smile, but my expression belied my attempts at cool and the look she gave mirrored my own as she awaited my response.

Uncontrolled words tumbled from my stupid mouth; pathetic and apologetic as I searched my useless brain for any Portuguese I’d picked up over the past weeks, but found nothing except nonsense and gibberish.

I reached out a little too desperately and grabbed her elbow to stop her moving away from me, in the hope that she would translate her exotic syllables into ones more familiar to my ears. In the hope I may suddenly master this language that had so far utterly evaded me.

It was already too late; she was gone and her words would forever remain unexplained.

Very poetic use of words.
I take it that it was based on an experience you had?

...
EVEN my brilliantly twisted pieces??

I would have hoped they were the highlight.

Well
Mr Z, I liked yours, a lot!

Let me rephrase that...
Especially Zapiola's brilliantly twisted pieces, which were the highlight.

@BGB: it is loosely based on an experience I had in Brazil, although it involved less 'eyes meeting across a crowded bar' and more dancing with a very pretty girl who kept trying to talk to me, but in Portuguese. Very frustrating.

Damn that language barrier eh?

GuMuHu
I thank you...

Based on an experience in Brazil eh? Not. by any chance, in 123 Discoteque in Copacabana in Rio?

Is about all I did on that holiday... sodding language barrier.

Zapiola: didn't make it to Rio. Spent three weeks travelling around the North East, which was awesome (except the language frustration).
