blues
I'm not a blues expert by any means, but I've been getting more into it lately. Aside from the really famous people (BB King, etc), I've lately been enjoying Bobby Bland, Sugar Pie DeSanto (saw her live recently, that woman is fucking amazing. 72 years old, and she has 500x the energy as 25 year old me), Eddie Clearwater, and endless Johnny Winter, who's somewhere at the intersection of rock and blues.
I do prefer more active, busy blues (I can't think of a better way to describe it). If you're looking for something really slow and depressing, like blues should be, I might not be of much help. But you should still go buy a Johnny Winter album :)
A blues compilation is a great idea, it's what I got when I was starting to really get interested in finding artists I like.
