civil yes, you would say: "i remain firmly convinced of my position, and have very robust legal advice. however, strictly without prejudice to this position, in the interest of bringing the matter to a swift and mutually beneficial resolution, i will do X/pay Y to save time and costs for both parties. In the event that you do not accept this offer, i will be referring the court to this letter on the question of costs in due course."
criminal - no idea, as not a criminal lawyer, but i think you could get your sentence reduced by going along with it. however, you'd still have pleaded guilty...
