Mobile technology is the problem.It ruins plots - makes it virtually impossible to isolate someone, which is one of the singular most useful devices.
Hence the forced isolation of reality TV, or period dramae set before such was available/remakes.
Also, kids/teenagers are a huge market, and won't watch old stuff. Hence remakes.
QV - people are really stupid and get from the media what they deserve.

the writers should put all their characters on the appallingly misnamed "everything everywhere" networkbelieve me, they'd be pretty fucking isolated, even if they lived and worked in zone 1.
