It makes sense for books a d records and things you can get entertainment from, even that warhammer stuff I can sort of understand. But porcelain pigs or temps just strike me as odd.

Is that you'll very quickly amass a massive collection that will have cost you a small fortune. A collection that as soon as you get them out of the box, depreciates by about 99.9999999%

and comes back with a twatty plastic toad because they have zero imagination and gives it to mum as a present. Other lazy family members follow suit so mum, with no effort or intention, quickly becomes known as a collector of spacky amphibians. You know she's been indoctrinated when she starts buying them herself.
Some years later someone goes on holiday and there are no slimy hoppers in the gift shop so they buy her a Friesian cow chamber pot and the whole sad thing starts again.
