I was taught by a great, great guy
whose technique was to get you to bring him a tape of two songs you wanted to play, the next lesson he'd teach you - and afterwards show you how you got there via scales etc. It meant you were playing stuff you wanted to hear straight away so didn't get disheartened.

Really clever. Such a nice dude as well, little Californian chap.

I was 12 or 13, the chap taught electric guitar at Winchester college.
It meant we got a soundproof room in the Music Dept to crank it up with impunity.

That sounds a bit gay. It wasn't.
