Oh my goodness, I dread to think about the Inverse Square Law on that one.
They'd be able to hear you in Kolkata

You really do struggle with how that works, don't you?

Well, the call starts of in london, at a 1:1 ratio of how much it costs.... so to make things simple, if you were calling your local take-away, lets say that cost £1.
Now if you were calling someone in Cardif, then that might be 2:1, £2 a minuite, but they talk a bit longer there and its hard to work out the accent, so really it's 2.3:1, so that minuite conversation will be £2.46
Then moving out a bit, next up would be New York, which is really far away, they talk fast so that compensates a bit, but they don't deliver.

Thing is though, it goes in a "Radius", that's a circle, which is round like a wheel of a car (or bike/truck). So when you call up Cardiff, someone in Paris will be able to listen in. And with new york, well, that'll reach timbucktoo.

But you want to call up Callifornia, so we're looking at a 22:1 ratio by the time you consider that their recepetionist flirts a bit. And going the other directions, that covers Kolkata, south africa and russia.
