I'm watching some crappy horror film
How far back do you have to cast your mind to remember the last decent horror move you saw (in terms of when it was made) ? I'm going with Candyman.

Alt: How drunk do you need to get to reach 'too honest'?

Altalt: Sound off like ya got a pair!

I liked Wolf Creek, it's nasty.
As is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Is Snowtown a horror? It's really good an' all.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 22:47, Reply)
I got the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre in poundland the other day
I did like Wolf Creek, well made and effective, it just didn't stick in the mind.

There was a decent zombie without zombies film recently set in a radio station where certain sound waves had turned people into zombies or something. That was alright.

The Shining pisses all over just about every horror film from a very great height

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 22:55, Reply)
The shining is shit

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 22:58, Reply)
It really isn't

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:00, Reply)
Long, boring and pretentious
Also nothing happens
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:04, Reply)
away tae fuck 1p ghost man
your opinion is as valid as your face (in that you're welcome to it but I find nothing of value in either)
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:06, Reply)
Tell me why it's good?
Apart from the granny fanny
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:08, Reply)
I always try not to fall into this trap but I got fucken flippant or summat
if you've seen The Shining and not liked it, well, like, that's totally your opinion maaan. I ent gonna ice skate uphill.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:12, Reply)
It's beautifully composed.
It's thematically rich.

The photography is breathtaking.

It's sinister.

Those long tracking shots of Danny in his trike were innovative at the time.

It's cold. It's clinical. It's typically Kubrick in the colour palette and the pacing.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:14, Reply)
None of that means shit if you don't come away entertained
but I agree with everything you've said, its just people are strange innit
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:17, Reply)
There's a difference between liking something at a visceral, enjoyment level
And liking it at an interpretive, critical level.

But I don't apply my standards equally.

And se'sly, films don't need to be entertaining to be enjoyable.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:20, Reply)
I'd have thought 'enjoyable' was more limited than 'entertained'
but i dont wanna get all chuckle brothers here
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:25, Reply)
it's narrower, but that isn't a bad thing

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:26, Reply)
Yeah but nothing happens

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:18, Reply)
See, you're doing an Al here and levelling accusations of pretension against cultural content entirely deserving of its praise.
The Shining is arguably Kubrick's best film. Techincally and thematically he was pretty much untouchable.

Maybe you should stick to Tarantino and Michael Bay.

I disagree with both of these statements on the internet
I hope you can forgive me

WE ARE THROUGH!!!!!

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:05, Reply)
I haven't seen a decent horror film in years
I think my standards have gone up.

Alt alt: pretty drunk. Usually I remember what I shouldn't say.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:01, Reply)
See, I reach the point where I wake up the next day and there are voids in my recollection.
And it is those times when I am terrified what I may have said.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:04, Reply)
I've only once woken up with full gaps in my memory
on enquiry it turned out I'd spent those missing hours asleep on the floor. I have said some unwise things though usually because I thought it'd be funny at the time.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:05, Reply)
It happens to me too often.
But I'd far rather be able to do chemicals in social situations without it being frowned on.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:09, Reply)
Alt: I'm to honest about myself rather than telling people what I think of them. I often have no idea what I have said and this is in no way an indication of a dangerous level of alcohol consumption.

innit bruv

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:04, Reply)
Dunno mate, can't remember.

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:06, Reply)
The best horror films are the ones that mess with your head
As opposed to just loads of gore and shit etc. Even the original Alien is a better horror film than many that claim to be horror film, because you hardly ever see the aliens, your mind creates the suspense/fright instead of it just being laid out for you, which gets boring.
Alt: couple of beers usually does it
Altalt: SIR YES SIR!
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:09, Reply)
Indeed. This is why I prefer Alien to Aliens.
The Exorcist is ace as well.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:11, Reply)
Aliens is a shoot-em-up action movie, really, but a pretty good one

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:13, Reply)
Exactly.
Alien is about the abjection of the female and post-colonialism.

Aliens is about GUNS.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:15, Reply)
I am pretty sure alien is about an alien

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:18, Reply)
It really isn't

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:20, Reply)
The best part 3 ever is The Exorcist III
I recently got hold of a copy of Legion which the film is based, but deviates, from. George C Scott gives a fucken powerhouse performance in that.

Alien and Aliens are one of lifes perfect double-bills. Deciding between them is like deciding which day you prefer having a wank on.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:15, Reply)
I've read Legion.
I didn't rate it. Alright as a pulp novel.

And I like Alien 3, I realise that is a minority view (and that it's not as good as the first two) but it's unfairly maligned.

Godfather 3 is toss though.

MY LUCKY COAT!!!!
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:17, Reply)
Also see home alone 3

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:19, Reply)
The woman at the start of that film is well fit.

I didn't get Alien3 at all
The bit with the alien running on the roof was good, but other than that, boring.
I quite liked some of the Poltergeist series, the bit with the kid only visible in mirrors was well weird.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:21, Reply)
I liked Batman & Robin, it was loads of fun to watch and there were bad guys and fights and guns and explosions and and and it's really good

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:22, Reply)
it certainly realised the character of 'Bane' better than more recent versions

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:27, Reply)
I didn't rate The Dark Knight Rises either; bad script, bad editing, major plot holes and the spasticated 'my real name is Robin' thing

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:29, Reply)
That film and Man of Steel were my top most depressing cinema outings of the past year
If indeed The Dark Knight Rises was in cinemas in the past year

Oh, and the new Star Trek

Fucken snakes biting its tail already, might be time to switch up.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:32, Reply)
I loved the 'broken back fixed by being punched in the spine by Tom Conti' bit
Oh, that and making it back to the USA from Azerbaijan or wherever with no money or passport, then making it in to a city in lockdown, then the coppers underground for what, three months, coming back up again with no health issues or that, and then NOBODY NOTICING THAT PATRICK BATEMAN IS ACTUALLY PATRICK BATMAN!!!!

Jesus H Christ it was shit on so many levels.
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:36, Reply)
The minority view on Alien3 grows every year
Personally, I think it reeks potential but is a poor film when you remove the blinders. I read one of the many earlier scripts for it (possibly by Eric Red) that was set on a wooden planet inhabited by monks that would've been fantastic but enormously cost prohibitive. Good script though and a way better ending for Ripley.

I have a soft spot for Godfather III. Overall it;s a failure but its so effing sumptuous and the opera finale is the tits (if a little overwrought)
(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:22, Reply)
Godfather 3 is shit at every level

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:23, Reply)
I disagree with this opinion on the internet

I disagree with your face on the internet

Neither can I

Aliens is much better

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:11, Reply)
Totally different kind of movie

(, Fri 11 Oct 2013, 23:14, Reply)
