I had a windfall in my late teens, and blew it on an idiot stereo with all bells, whistles, lights and all the other shit.
Turns out it was actually the ... testing ... brand for Technics - they'd put out their latest ideas on this brand, and if they were any good, they'd rebrand as Technics and double the price.

That's what I was told by someone believably geeky, anyway.
