I have only a few, but very close friends, all of whom I'm proud to be called their friend and they mine.
Yes that's really cheesy - I don't care. My stag do, for example, was relatively dull by a young man's mark, but we all thoroughly enjoyed it. And that's the point.

I'm the same with friends. Acquaintances are a different matter. Some of them are right pricks - either never have any money & always trying to cadge drinks, always moaning, always talking about football.

Ah. Acquaintances - yes.
They're very annoying. Especially - if, like one of mine, they are very long on getting a round - if ever - but regularly boast designer shirts.

One provides regular gossip. He's quite prissy, and desperate to be oppressed. He has a habit of literally flouncing, and simply walking out of the gathering. Often this happens towards the time for the bill to be paid for comes. The last time he boasted that we didn't know what it was like - he was the one having to have counselling for anger management, threw his drink at the wall, and swanned off.
