When I moved in with Mrs V my ex-flatmate gave me shit about being under the thumb.
Eventually he moved in with his gf, and a couple of weeks later I saw him, and he was down.

"Sup?" I enquired, all gangsta.

"Oh it's just me n' her" he said, trying to be dismissive.

"Sup?" I enquired, all gangsta.

"Well ... it's one of my horror film posters - I'm not allowed to put it up in the ... "

"Let me stop you there" I instructed. "You are not allowed."

"No but it's cool, though!" he protested, "Because I'm allowed to ... "

"Yes" I interrupted again, "You are allowed. You are allowed, and you are not allowed. Now - tell me again about being under the thumb."
