The Olympics is a sport right?
And sport isn't news it's sport. So why are the BBC using sooo much news time to tell us about sport, a bunch of minority sports at that, when any other sporting news would never regularly make it into the news segment of the half hour and would be put into the 'sport' section?
Is it just me or is anyone else getting annoyed about the Olympics being basically plastered onto the insides of our eyelids, it's impossible to not see it somehow.
[/rant]
[rant]
And another thing! Why is it so much of an accomplishment to get all these gold medals? As I've seen on the news (which I didn't really want to see 'cos it's sport) we've spent about £20million on a number of sports to get these gold medals and even if we sold all of our medals we'd still be looking at a loss of a few million.
I just don't see the point in throwing so much cash at this thing just so we can say we came xxth in the medals table. It's not like the public ever care about these sports in the 3 year period when there aren't Olympics happening so why do we give it so much attention when it comes on?

No wait and another thing...Oh no I don't have another thing...

The Olympics tend to
Be more of a "did you see that sprinter guy? He was only 21, but he was amazing!" type thing.
It's lots of short things, which is way more interesting.
Plus it's only once every four years.
I'm not a fan of it, but to be fair, what other shit would be on instead of it?
Celebrity break-dancing?

No I didn't see that.
I really shouldn't laugh that loudly at this time of night. As for your 'wow look at that sprinter go' analysis I don't see what's so special about them. That Phelps guy isn't special, I can swim as well where's my medal? Just because I'm only certified to swim for 10m and would drown in a 3m swimming pool doesn't mean I'm not as good. And I can run as well! :)

GB is third in the overall table
for a tiny nation of backwater inbreds, that's pretty good.
Ireland on the other hand has won fuck all although we've a few pavey's (pikey's) in the baxin' (boxing) we're pinning our hopes on.
We also have a runner in the 400m men whom PC champion and Irish sporting commentary legend last night described as 'the fastest white man in the world'. Legend.
There's a website called www.dangerhere.com inspired by PC Titan, Ron Atkinson which chronicles the faux-pas of various commentators in a section called 'guff'.
Check it out.

I agree
I agree but would also add the inordinate amount of coverage given earlier in the year to the Clinton/Obama battle and just for good measure, can I say without fear of hypocricy that I couldn't give a stuff that Jade Goodey has got cervical cancer. Not that I'm a heartless bastard, but because she's a publicity hungry, talentless nobody and this news has no place in the so-called 'serious' news media.
