Gah!
Please can someone tell me what 'FTW' means?
I don't understand and it's ruining my enjoyment of Off Topic!

FTW FTW
It means For The Win. Which means 'I think that is the best.
For example: I really like chocolate chip shortbread. Chocolate chip shortbread FTW.
HINT: any stuff like this you don't understand, google it. Not that I mind answering this question you understand.

Really?
I always thought it meant "Fourpenny Thrush Wrangler'.
As in 'I like Chips. Chips Fourpenny Thrush Wrangler'.
On reflection, that's just stupid.

Aha!
@ Mrs Liveinabin,
I didn't even think about googling it, I thought it was a b3ta thing.
Silly, but more enlightened, me

Indeed.
Google is your friend. Without it I would never have found out the meaning of FTW, or who Joey Deacon is, or why people hate Clacton. As an American among Brits, it can be extremely confusing- but Google answers all, eventually.
Ditto on Kthnxbi and other oddball expressions that pop up. "fnar", for example, means For No Apparent Reason. Puzzled the hell out of me the first few times I saw it...

Dunno.
I just googled for "fnar" and that's what I got. But in here if I se it as "fnarr fnarr" I usually interpret it as puerile laughter meant ironically, as you've described.
Bear in mind, as an American I'm not familiar with the comedians you cite.

I too thought it was
in the style of Finbar Saunders (who BTW Loon is a character from the adult comic Viz).

Ah! I may need to get a few copies of that comic.
I've heard numerous references to it, and abefroman once told me of Raffles the Gentleman Thug.
FTW can also mean Fuck The World, by the way. But that usage of it was in the '70s.

Viz is very funny
although it's heyday was the mid-eighties.
It started as a student magazine.
Very similar to b3ta humour.
I suggest a visit to www.viz.co.uk and click archive.
Try Mickey's Monkey Spunk Moped.
