if the woman presenting said comedy doesn't look a certain way, because after all, that's all that really matters.

Actually, she might not be.
I remember seeing an Australian female comic and she actually was pretty funny. She was also pretty hot. I think she's got it right, you have to be hot to be a funny woman. Once again hotness proves itself the most important attribute in a woman.

miranda is a good example
oh look, she isn't funny, because she's a woman. but........ nearly all the scripts are WRITTEN BY MEN. 80% of the writers for that show are men.

I'm not denying there are unfunny men.
I'm one of them.

But in general men are combative about comedy, and so up the stakes whenever someone else is funny, and this leads to an escalation of comedy. Women are more likely to laugh at the jokes, but are less combative, and so the level remains low.
