I'm here now
You can all stop worrying.
So... I had an exciting day of rain, recording and an epic race against the clock to get a new bass string before the shop shut.

I'm thinking about sticking a film on...
My mate has given me "Fido" to watch.
It's a film starring Billy Connelly as a zombie.
Hmmm...

I did have the stupidest ever conversation earlier in the local shop.

Chavette with Mom tattoo on her boob: How old are you?
Me: 23
CWMTOHB: You look like the kind of person who is older than they are
Me: So I look 25?
CWMTOHB: No like you are 17 but look 23
Me: What?
CWMTOHB: Do you have any ID?
*Show her my passport*
CWMTOHB: Oh you are 23.
Me. ..... can I have my cigarettes now please?

On the plus side we got a pretty good recording done of one of our songs.

Rain is less so. I think the forecast rain is going to ruin my holiday plans for later in the week, as it was to be in a tent.
Meh.
Ha, you look like a chav.

Bah!
Had a few mates over tonight, some I had not seen in over 10 years.
Time is not only a great leveller, but it also turns what used to be a guy you grew up with and would trust your life with into an almost total stranger after 10 years.
Feeling just a tad glum now about the gulf of time between me and a couple of my oldest bestest mates.
We could all feel the gap opening so on the plus side we are all going to tell our partners to bugger off once every 3 months so we can spend a day drinking, eating and talking crap like we did tonight.

But my driving license pic was taken when I was 16 and my hair is scrapped back and whilst I was a trendy Nirvana wearing hoodie lover (oh the follies of youth) I look chavvy in my pic :(

We were having an awesome recording session
Got one song practiced to a finely-polished sheen.
Did a rough recording of it, and *bang* the E string on my bass broke, over the pickups.
Oh... Ok... I've had that bass for nearly five years, and never changed a string on it. Having a spare with me had never occured.
We looked at the time.
5:14.
We called the local music place that we use (Gig Gear in Harlow, excellent place, by the way).
"When are you open 'til today?"
"Half five"
"We'll be there asap, don't close, please!"
So we jumped into my mates new car, me with my bass, and he powered it to the shop.
We were convinced that we'd be too late.
We weren't, the guy stayed open for us!
Got there at 5:32.
Got my string.
Drove back slowly.

Never changed a string on it in 5 years? I change mine every 6 months or so. My guitar gets changed every 4 months or so.
According to the tv, Britney Spears is annoying. Who'd have thunk it.

@ TGB
I had an interesting experience at our local Tescos a while back.
I slapped an 8 pack on the conveyor and the greasy till weasel had the temerity to ask "Have you got any I.D?" At 30 I thought I was beyond such foolishness so I asked, after a significant amount of laughter "Are you serious?".
At which point, said till weasel's supervisor slithered across to state "Sir, it is the store's policy to ask for I.D should we believe a customer is under the age of 25.". I took great pleasure in wiping the smug, supercilious grin off her and her lackeys face when I said "Sure. Here's my driver's license ......... And here's my warrant card" Gently placing my prison warrant card on the conveyor.
You've never seen such backtracking outside of the houses of commons in all your days. I laughed like a mentalist at a Five concert.

RadG,
It's not a matter of not wanting to spend out on new strings, I'm more than happy to do that, I was happy with how it sounded!
I've boiled them a few times, when they got to the point that my fingers were going black.

I know what you mean
Brand new strings, especially on a base just sound too bright.
For me, base strings were always at their best after 3 months and before 1 year. A bit of a boil to keep them going for a month or two after the year was up depending on how broke I was, but never more than 2 years!
5 years ..... wow. At the very least, take em off, pop them into a big pot of boiling water for 20 mins or so then once they are fully totally cooled (important) pop em back on.

Libraried indeed
Sounds good, I like the song in general. The bass could perhaps do with a bit more middle and treble, and the electric could be a bit louder in the mix.
And there was something with the drums, but I couldn't pinpoint it. How were they recorded?
edit - And the bass sounds like it's peaking a bit at the start.

Er...
Recorded it through a USB mic, not the best thing in the world, but better than the one on my camera.
It wasn't me that set the levels, my drummer has a Mac, so he did it in garageband.
Glad you like it in general though!

That explains the drum thing
It's that it was recorded through one mic, and not a full drum mic set.
In that case it sounds especially good, if it was just done with a usb mic.
I take it it was done individually?
And now I know your real name too!

Parts is the best way to record stuff, makes it much easier to edit afterwards, and can equalise the parts separately.
I know it indeed, and google revealed nothing interesting. Oh well.
I was considering buying a boss loop pedal, brilliant for recording acoustic stuff with lyrics.

So have to improvise. If I write stuff and ever have to perform live, I be the screwed.

That I have is that my guitarist has no creativity.
So I have to write the guitar parts, then get him to play them...
Kinda sucks, as I'm not much of a guitarist!
