I disagree,
although if people just follow the instructions on a kit they're generally poor. But if you give it about twice as long as it says to ferment and you have decent temperature control they're comparable to decent mid level beers you buy.

I use a pressure barrel in this weather as it's cool all the time, if it's warm out I'll put it in some flip top bottles.

I know what I'm doing. It's a hobby, it sort of semi saves money, and I can make the sorts of beer I like which don't really get sold outside of beer festivals.
