they've stated categorically that they believe the fence to be on my property and that I should pay for it
I've gone with a solicitors letter claiming criminal damage to my fence by the ivy on their side that has destroyed the fence in the first place. I got an email today stating they may be willing to come to an arrangement

doesn't it say on the deeds or summat which boundaries you're responsible for?
I know we're responsible for that really handsome fence over there and the neighbours are responsible for that really shitty panel fence over there

Nope, checked that, no boundary markers on the land registry so they're shared boundaries.
usually get a T mark to shoe which is yours, but there's nothing. Possibly because they're old terraces so would have one stage been shared gardens.
