I'd say1 - Sucks a bit, about the board and all.
2 - He has to accept most of the responsibility. I would say he should have moved out of the way, or not got in the way in the first place. If that's all that happened to him overall, cutting his mouth, I'd think I had got off quite lightly in that situation.
