You know the little cymbals they use on tambourines, the little round metal disks? Anyone know where I could get some, other than ripping apart cheap tambourines?

Your best bet
Probably is to rip apart cheap tombourines. More call for them and so the unit price is cheaper etc etc.

I presume
you are looking for finger cymbals/bells.

You'll probably find that depending on how you are using them, ripping apart a cheap tamourine would be more cost effective. But if you need them tuned (so that they make a "ting!!" instead of a "tssch!") you'll need proper ones.
Happy Hari Krshna-ing!

A friend of mine found them for me.

The reason I was asking is that I am going to make a percussion instrument for someone consisting of a wooden staff with these things on it and a thick rubber cap on the bottom. That was it can be slammed on the floor for a thump and jingle, or shaken in hand like a tambourine.

That would be a musical welly then...
crown bottle caps nailed into a broomstick that is then embedded in an old wellington boot - you hold the top of the stick and 'stamp' the boot on the floor. Trying to google an image but without success...
