The old townAvoid all the tourists areas and stay in the old town, somewhere like the Santa Maria square. It's full of little allyways that looked grubby and derelict during the day, but at night all the shutters come up and there are hundreds of independant shops, bars and restaurants.
I stay with a freiend these days but try lovingbarcelona.com for an apartment.
