I think the most likely reason
Is that it's some sort of meaningless business lingo that the person(s) organising the meeting have been using for so long that they don't consider the complete lack of useful meaning.

Small meetings (approx' 5 people) seem to be fairly worthwhile around here. Tiny ones (2 people) are most effective though. This is an en mass thing from one of the directors to tell us about last year's performance and the plans and expectations for the year ahead. It's going to be a snorefest.

:edit: @Dok What were you doing if you weren't communicating? Was this "meeting" simply an excuse to lock yourselves in a room and have a covert orgy?
