The newer ones are much more reliable thoughFalcon motherboards or whatever they call them. Also a lot of the cooling issues have been sorted and the DVD drives are different. Hence why I'm buying a new one not a second hand one. They get a lot of bad press based on the very early ones. They were rushed to market in typical MS fashion though, agreed
I'd get a PS3 but they're getting on for twice the price and don't have half as many good games...
