They have something similar in this country but I think it relates to whether the copper says 'can I buy some drugs off you' rather than being offered them. I'm really not sure what legal basis they have for forcing his girlfriend to phone him; more likely they just knew she was young and naive and would do what they asked.

I've had more than several tangles with the police over the years as I had a bit of an off the rails phase (grown up a bit now though, or got a bit more skilled at not getting caught...) Some of the times I was treated fairly and some of the times I was treated like shit.

It's actually got to the point now where, along with many people of our generation, my automatic response to anything the police asked me would be 'I didn't see anything, and I don't know anything', even if I did, because I don't trust them and don't want to have anything to do with them. Which is really really fucked isn't it?
