ravelryi'm not a knitter, but i'm married to a rabid one. my wife swears by ravelry, which is kind of a facebook for knitters. you can search for patterns/projects, see who else is doing the same projects you are, and see what other people are doing with the kind of yarn you are using. you have to sign up for membership, and there's about a 4-day wait. i'm assured it's worth the wait.
edit: oh yeah, just remembered. there's also a yarn exchange.
