All you need to do is go into loads of detail, and they want to get you off the phone as quickly as possible...

I consider it my duty when that sort of bug is going round the office to knock a few days off ill even when I don't have it, nobody ever questions you.

Edit: I have a full toolbox in my car, cos that's how I roll. It takes up about a third of the boot due to how comprehensive it is, my Scout training has certainly stayed with me.

I hope your Maglite is an LED one K2?
