Advent are a heap of shite, they're PC World's own brand I think
Remember that just over £300 will get you a decent entry level laptop (i.e. a Toshiba one) which might be more convenient - desktops actually seem to have risen in price since the mania for buying laptops!

I've always built my own desktops instead of buying them, but I use nothing but HP/Compaq desktops at work and would recommend those over a Dell any day. The Fujitsus are alright for cheap machines as well. Don't go near Acer.

Edit: @ tzambissamo, they sell just about every brand of laptop I've ever heard of! Recommending the whole shop isn't much help...
