I preferto use the grill on the oven.
You get the the crispy outer, the still slightly soft inner and a lovely taste throughout.
Also, if you put it on a really low heat it turns very crunchy.
Delightful.
I once made toast directly over camping stove and it tasted like fried bread, but there was no fat involved.
Wonderful.
