Have any of you ever bought/owned/sold or spent time in a Motor Home?
I'm thinking of either buying or renting one.
Seeing how well they hold their value, I was wondering if any of you have had one for a year, and how much it depreciated?
I can probably go to about £4,500-£5,000 and I'm thinking that something in the 'Transit' family might be more affordable.
Any info/advice would be lovely.

I would suggest going on a proper holiday and staying in a hotel.
I never understand why people would want to spend a week in a field in something that represents a shitter version of their house.
Surrounded by caravaning cunts and temporarily tattooed abortions pulling the wings off birds and wiping shit into their sister's face.

I only really want it for the festival season, and I'm unlikely to use it for any extended holidays or tours of the UK.
I've got 7 festivals planned this summer and I think I'll enjoy myself more if I've got a bit of metal surrounding me, rather than my usual trick of sleeping in a damp tent.
VW's seem very expensive for what you get.

Transits are bullet proof and thus a good option, bit dark in the back mind.
Having stayed in a couple at festivals, I would suggest checking for rust and getting one witha side door as this makes entry much easier.

i gotta go right ahead and disagree with you. 4 1/2 to 5k will by a decent vw camper, no reason why bottomless pockets would be needed as long as 2 things are born in mind...
1) if you can buy a personal-conversion if poss. a t reg td4 with 100k on the clock is barely run in. but see point 2) below...
2) check it out THOROUGHLY before parting wid da cash. long test-drives (2) with some weight on and plenty of hills of possible. you wanna see that service history including: servicing, tyres, oil and filters and most importantly BELTS especially TIMING belt.
in my humble opinion they are a great vehicle, far superior to transit in design, engineering and build quality. why else would the german postal service use them?

edit: No3l, yeah, that is also a v good option. merc 300 or 400? actually, a mate of mine swears by mondeo estates, had 3 high-milers and no bother, spares be cheep too. massive rear volume for the money...
edit: yeah, vw spares (only use genuine!) are not cheep, BUT!!!
And that’s a big but. You get what you pay for, be it a vehicle or a spare part. My best vehicles over the years have been (I’ve been driving for 21 years, have owned over 30 vehicles often 2 or 3 at a time) audi 100 2.3l, merc 210 sprinter (2.9l), citroen 2cv (0.6l) (I kid you not), vw transporter (1.9td4). it’s all about the build quality!!

owns this tinyurl.com/b9bn57, a Toyota Hiace that she paid to get converted and have the sofa bed, hob etc put in buy someone she knows in Chorley. I think she paid about £2500 for the van, and another £1000 roughly for the conversion. It's lovely inside. I've been to Glastonbury and Benicassim in it and it's fantastic.
