One of these days my curiosity will get me into a lot of trouble...Urgh! Damn google imagesearch! As for the origonal question, I always figured that giants where part of faerie, so they can probably do all sorts of magic and make themselves different sizes and stuff. Dunno that much about harry potter, but it'd certainly fit in with a lot of myths and such about fey folk
