making a direct comparrison between this and spanish flu is a bit silly.

I'm not saying
That this "is" Spanish 'flu.
Of course it's not.
But due to the nature of the virus, the epidemiology has the potential to be very similar.

To clarify,
I'm NOT saying that anything is likely to happen.
I'm just saying that one influenza virus particle has much the same potential as another, and shouldn't be written off as no threat.

silly
this strain, does not have the potential to do that amount of damage,
it would have to mutate significantly, but then it would be a new strain.

I've explained myself badly.
You're right, of course.

I know what you were getting at,
I just like calling people silly,
you silly.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:35, Reply)
No YOU'RE silly!
Anyway, my area of speciality is parasitic disease, rather than this.
/excuse.

My academic area of expertise
if you can call it that is Neurochemistry,
this is just part of my job.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:42, Reply)
I'd hardly clam to be an expert, ha!
But I studied a lot about it.
Although my research project was on the female reproductive systems of a certain kind of water beetle.

you like parasites, I like bacteria and viruses.
You can say I don't know what's going on - Okay - maybe I don't have as an "informed" opinion as Kaol, but I do have quite a good idea of how viruses and bacteria transmit and live. I'm entitled to my opinions just as much as you.

yeah... but...
you didn't know the difference between an disease and an infection up there.
so...
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:48, Reply)
yes I do -
the Flu is a disease. MS is a disease. A disease is where your body is not able to stay healthy and fight off whatever is going wrong. Infection is from pathogens. Disease can be autoimmune or otherwise.
