Monumentally stupidOn both sides. Look at what happened when IRL split off from CART? It ruined open-wheel racing in North America for 10 years, and allowed NASCAR to take over. I think everyone expected the teams to at least publically threaten to create a new series. But that was really just a way to get FIA to back off on the budget/tech restrictions. Then the silly buggers went and sued. If FIA really thinks that will get the teams to back off, they've miscalculated in spectacular fashion.
