Do we really think the Stig is Schumacher himself? Id like to think so

There's a guy I know who works for a car manufacturer.
He told me who the Stig is.
I forgot. Ben someone.

A guest Stig every week. Now that would be fun.

Are people still talking about this? Examine the evidence. A million pound Ferrari that even the owners have to leave at the Ferrari factory. Jeremy Clarkson. James May. Richard Hammond.
Would you let one of them drive your highly limited edition supercar around a track? No. You'd get your technical consultant, Michael Schumacer, to do it, wouldn't you.
Other 'guest' Stigs have been Heikki Kovalainen - he drove the Renault F1 car around the track in 2004.

I'm just tired that loads of people seem to have taken it as fact that Schumi is the Stig because (shock!) he took the helmet off on TV. It's patently obvious that he is not the 'regular' Stig, that's all I'm saying.

Ben Collins is the Stig. 100%
When it was discovered however - there has been quite a nice detente between the BBC, The top Gear guys themselves and the media in general.
Yes, they reported when Ben (like a twat) went to a builder and asked for a trophy cabinet to be made in his house featuring the Stig costume. But they haven't made a big thing out of it, and Top Gear haven't felt the need to sack him over it.
The Stig's anonymity is part of the fun, part of the magic. The Schumacher thing was just another bit of fun, that's why they showed him being shit at the end.
In fact, although I normally loathe Schuey, I thought he took the pisstaking pretty well. Fair play to him.
But Slip Digby is right, there have been several 'Stigs' used when manufacturers loan cars with specific requirements - the F1 & The Ferarri examples SD states being spot on.
Perry McCarthy (Black Stig) tried cashing in on the fame and deliberatley 'ruined the mystery'...that's why they sacked him (and he was an egotistical cunt). Ben merely made a mistake, and has been a great servant and popular member of the Top Gear team (he's also cheap), and so they have been happy to keep him on. Besides, there's not that many people who would be happy to be so famous yet have nobody know who you are.
Ben was also the driver of the Aston Martin at the beginning of Quantum Of Solace.
Hope this clears things up.
