"Whilst standing, sweating..."...yeah, that works. I think "stood, sweating" is probably correct if you're going for a slightly more theatrical style*...where are Enzyme or Chickenlady to correct me on these things?
*Does that make me a complete ponce?

I'm on holiday from work so my brain has officially switched off'stood sweating' sounds fine to me, can't remember what tense it is though...past historic? past pluperfect? God knows.
In my book if it sounds okay it probably is - living language and all that.
